Czech halts Rafa’s third Wimbledon title run

French open champion, Spaniard Rafael Nadal , was ousted by 100th-ranked Czech Lukas Rosol at the Wimbledon. This second round defeat of Rafa is considered as a huge upset by many. This is also being labeled as Rafa’s worst Grand Slam defeat in the last five years.Rosol bagged the match 6-7 (9/11), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 .
The 2008 and 2010 Wimbledon champion was stunned by Rosol, whose earlier five visits to this tournament had been ended by first round defeats.
This shock early exit of Nadal bears similarity to another early departure from the same tournament in 2005,when Luxembourg’s Gillis Muller defeated him. It also is eerily similar to Rafa’s fourth round French Open loss to Swede Robin Soderling
Nadal, a two-time Wimbledon champion, had nothing but praise for the exceptional performance of his opponent in the fifth set, but added his poor play was a factor in the final result.
“That’s not a tragedy; it’s just a tennis match. Last four months were great for me, probably the best months in my career playing unbelievable in the clay court season. The only thing I can do is go back home and rest, I need and deserve it.” Nadal said.
Rosol will face German 27th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber for a place in the last 16.
